Season 2 of Squid game is now streaming and delivers another chapter of the hit South Korean Netflix drama. One of the season’s biggest twists involves Player 001’s true identity, setting the stage for the action-packed finale and the upcoming third and final season.

The second part brings back former winner Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly competition a few years after winning the 45.6 billion won prize. Determined to end the twisted game once and for all, Gi-hun sets his sights on hunting down the mysterious frontman, the mastermind behind it all.

After two years of weapons training, Gi-hun hatches a plan to infiltrate Squid game. Working with detective Hwang Jun-ho, they remain connected via a hidden tracker implanted in a false tooth, which the guards unfortunately remove when he enters the game.

He resumes his role as player 456 and fights his way through familiar challenges like Red Light and Green Light as well as new games like Pentathlon and Mingle. However, Gi-hun is unaware that one of his closest allies in the games is actually the person he detests the most.

Who is player 001? Squid game Season 2?

Player 001 in Squid game Season 2 is actually Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), also known as The Front Man. The frontman disguises himself as a gambler and befriends Gi-hun by telling his tragic backstory: his pregnant wife is seriously ill and he takes part in the games to win the money necessary to support her and their unborn child save.

Fans may remember that In-ho is the older brother of Detective Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon). In Season 1, Jun-ho discovers that his missing brother has become the leader of Squid game. Before taking control, In-ho participated in the games as Player 132, eventually taking over the role of Player 001 from original creator Oh Il-nam (O Yeong-su).

In Season 2, Gi-hun and Player 001 form an alliance with other competitors, including Gi-hun’s best friend from Season 1, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), and an ex-Marine named Dae-ho (Kang Ha) . -new).

As Jun-ho searches for the island where Squid Game is taking place, it becomes clear that the boat captain assisting him is sabotaging the mission. This ultimately prevents Jun-ho from finding the games and helping Gi-hun.

Of the 100 remaining players, half vote to stay in the competition while the other half vote to leave the competition. With a second vote looming, the players resort to violence and attempt to kill the participants who did not vote for them.

Amid the chaos, Gi-hun tells his allies to hide and hatches a plan to break into the Masked Spectators’ headquarters. Gi-hun and his friends pretend to be dead and launch a surprise attack, overpowering the guards and confiscating their weapons, leaving only one of the guards alive.

The rebel group turns off the cameras and sets out to capture the captain, who is secretly among them. Young-il separates from the group and claims to have found an alternative route to where the masked figures are shooting at Gi-hun and Jung-bae. However, he betrays the rebels, killing two of them and faking his own death. Over a security guard’s radio, Young-il instructs his team to put down the uprising. The frontman ditches his Player 001 tracksuit and swaps it for his signature black cape and mask.

One of the most heartbreaking moments of the finale is the death of Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk considered his death to be the ideal conclusion to the second season. “The audience will definitely be shocked and very sad to see Jung-bae go,” Hwang told Tudum. “He is also the only person in the games that Gi-hun can trust and rely on completely.”

Meanwhile, actor Jung-jae believes Jung-bae’s death will change his character in Season 3. “How much pain can someone endure to achieve their goal?” he told the site. “Would the determination he had at the beginning still be intact? Would he still carry this feeling inside of him? Because now his best friend is dead.”

Unfortunately, at the end of the second season, Gi-hun is unaware that the frontman and Young-il are the same person. “I don’t think Gi-hun knows the truth yet,” Jung-jae added, noting that Gi-hun was too busy “blaming himself for everything that happened.”

The third and final season will be about the next chapter in the intense showdown between Gi-hun and the frontman, Hwang teased on the website.
