“I am thrilled to write this letter to announce the date of Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season,” series director, writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote in an August Letter to Fans, confirmed Season 2 would premiere in December and announced that Season 3 would arrive in 2025. “The fierce battle between (Gi-hun and Front Man’s) two worlds will continue until the series finale with Season 3 brought to you next year.”

Although he didn’t specifically mention it in the letter, it appears that Season 2 and Season 3 were filmed back-to-back, meaning Netflix could release Season 3 any time in 2025. However, it is likely that they will wait a bit and let fans enjoy season 2.

“I am thrilled to see the seeds planted to create something new Squid game “The end of this story will grow and bear fruit,” Hwang wrote. “We will do our best to ensure we give you another exciting ride.”

What is Squid Game Season 3 about?

But there were too many episodes. So I thought it would be better to split it in two.”

As we’ve already seen, Season 2 ends with a major betrayal amid an armed rebellion between Gi-hun and his allies and the people running Squid Game. Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae and others prove to be collateral damage as Gi-hun doesn’t know that Young-il is actually the frontman. And a new, terrifying game awaits players that is very similar to Red Light, Green Light. Except it seems like there’s another doll waiting for her. “This is actually a sneak peek of Cheol-su, who like Young-hee is a new giant puppet that we will introduce in Season 3,” said the creator/writer/director Weekly entertainment. “And that is also a reference to the most exciting game of the third season. Even though it hasn’t been shared yet, I hope everyone is excited to get to know Cheol-su and the new game.”

Hwang calls what comes next the “second chapter of the showdown between Gi-hun and Front Man.” And the last.
