Staff Predictions: Tech will face Razorbacks in the Liberty Bowl

Texas Tech’s 2024 season comes to a close Friday night in Memphis when the Red Raiders take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Liberty Bowl at 6 p.m. Texas Tech comes into the game with a chance to win a ninth game for the first time since 2009 and fourth straight bowl game.

Will the Red Raiders be able to defeat the Razorbacks and send the Seniors away with a win? The RedRaiderSports.com The employees give their predictions for this weekend’s affair.

Ben Golan: Texas Tech 32, Arkansas 27

This should be an interesting game with both offenses moving the ball very well. Texas Tech will be without Behren Morton, Josh Kelly and possibly Tahj Brooks, but there is plenty of talent to step in to still be successful.

Seeing what former four-star quarterback Will Hammond does in his first career start is obviously what most Texas Tech fans are looking forward to. Hammond has provided plenty of insight in his limited time, but this is his first real chance for a breakthrough. I expect it to happen.

As exhausted as Texas Tech is on offense, the Razorbacks are just as exhausted, if not more so, due to the transfer portal. Arkansas will be missing several starters on both sides of the ball, including the entire interior offensive line.

Don’t bet against Texas Tech in bowl games. The Red Raiders manage a narrow victory late on.

Jarrett Ramirez: Texas Tech 28, Arkansas 20

If I learned anything from Texas Tech’s two bowl games under Joey McGuire, it’s that the Red Raiders come to play. These bowl games often come down to which team is most excited to be there.

Both teams are pretty depleted and that will give the Red Raiders’ young talent like Will Hammond, J’Koby Williams and Kelby Valsin plenty of opportunities to shine.

There are a lot of question marks about what Arkansas can still bring to the party from an offensive standpoint. I could see Jayden Cofield or Miquel Dingle having big games to continue Tech’s trend of a young defenseman making a name for himself in the postseason.

As I said above, Tech participates in these bowl games and the program takes this game very seriously. The Red Raiders win nine games for the first time in over a decade.

Justin Apodaca: Texas Tech 30, Arkansas 27

This is a very interesting matchup for a variety of reasons. Tech has a lot to offer and McGuire has made it clear that this game is extremely important to the trajectory of his program, so I expect Tech to play hard.

This will be a clash of many untested units for both teams, so we’ll see what it ultimately looks like.

I expect the Red Raiders to play hard like they have in past bowl games under McGuire, and if Brooks decides to try out for Tech, the Red Raiders should be able to run the ball well to let it run.

Personally, I’m excited to watch Will Hammond see what a complete game looks like from him, and I’m willing to trust McGuire’s guys in this game.
