Star Wars boss confirms real reason for 'The Acolyte' cancellation

“We were happy with our performance” is a funny way to explain it, but sure

If you are a fan of the Disney+ Star Wars show The Acolyte But this is your first time on the internet in the last few months. Then apologize in advance for being the bearer of bad news, as this show is never getting a second season.

It’s no secret that the series was something of a hit with the fan base, but as it turns out, Disney actually considers the series a minor success – just not enough of a success.

In a recent interview with Vulture’s Josef Adalian, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman revealed why they decided not to renew the series for a second season.

“As far as Acolyte goes, we were happy with our performance,” Alan Bergman told Vulture, “but given the cost structure of that title, it honestly wasn’t what we needed to make a season two.” That’s why we didn’t do it.”

On the bright side, Bergman offered a relatively positive outlook on Disney’s current Star Wars series. Skeleton crew.

“Skeleton Crew is in the works right now, so we’ll see. We’ve seen some growth here. We’ll see how that goes. As you said, the reviews for Skeleton Crew have been great, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out down the road.”

Bergman also told Vulture that the future of Star Wars also looks pretty bright, especially with the upcoming second season in mind Andor.

“What awaits us is the second season of Andor, which we are really excited about. It’s excellent. I’ve seen all the episodes and it’s a fantastic season. And then we have the second season of Ahsoka, directed by Dave Filoni…”

Hopefully this means Disney has its spiraling budget problems under control, because the Star Wars fan base won’t last much longer if every show it invests in ends up being canceled.

Here is hope Andor is really as good as they suggest…
