Stats from the Dallas Mavericks’ win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday

The Dallas Mavericks returned to the winning list Saturday night, defeating the Los Angeles Clippers 113-97 and tying the head-to-head record with one player each, while Luka Doncic once again appeared in street clothes. Quentin Grimes led the Mavericks with 20 points. Norman Powell led all scorers that night with 28 points.

Here are some important numbers:

24%: Kyrie’s field goal percentage

The last time Kyrie shot under 50 percent in a game was on December 3rd against the Memphis Grizzlies. He’s been consistently flawless for most of the season, but that only makes this performance more painful.

He was particularly cold in the first half, shooting 16.7 percent from the floor and 20 percent from three. However, in this game it didn’t play too much of a role. Other people have lobbied to make it a ball game. Which leads us to our next statistic:

14: Points scored by Grimes in the 4th quarter

Grimes didn’t do much before the 4th quarter. He made good plays and made no mistakes. Then the 4th quarter started and he went on the heater.

This effectively put the game out of reach. The Mavericks had a lead of eight early in the fourth quarter, and instead of letting the Clippers back in, Grimes kept them at bay by going 4/4 from the field and making all three of his attempts from long range.

12: The Mavericks’ steals

Some of the steals the Mavs made were simply unforced errors by their opponent. Regardless, Dallas played excellent defense, holding the Clippers to double figures (97) and disrupting passing lanes, earning 12 steals en route to the win.

Everyone played really well on defense with the names that stand out: Klay Thompson with four steals, Dinwiddie with three steals and Dereck Lively with two steals. In any case, it was a team effort that made this possible.

86.4%: The Mavericks’ free throw rate

That was really promising to see. Their free throw average isn’t bad, and they’ve shot very well at times, both at the stripe and otherwise. This is really good, though. Everyone made sure their freebies were counted and the scoreboard shows it.

4: Lively’s shares

Lively was active everywhere today. However, his presence was most clearly felt on defense. He was everywhere, playing smart defense and rotating to help, without mistakes or missteps. Most importantly, he made a strong impact against Zubac, who only scored 13 points in this game after dropping 21 points in the last game. He made the right plays and it showed today.

Bonus Stat: 50% – Naji’s 3-point percentage on his last 32 attempts

Naji didn’t start the new year so well. Specifically, it’s about shooting 4 of 30 from deep. He has since sharpened his shot and hasn’t looked back since. He made 2 of 3 from behind the arc today, and the fact that his accuracy peaked around the time the Mavericks began their run is no mere coincidence. He mastered the stone with confidence, and that was a great blessing during this time.
