Steelers fans remain optimistic about Christmas despite the loss to the Chiefs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t get the gift they were hoping for on Wednesday. Lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 29-10But the fans didn’t let the defeat over the holidays get them down.

There’s nothing better than cheering on the Black and Gold in December, not to mention Christmas and Hanukkah. For the third time in team history, the Steelers played a big game against the Chiefs on Christmas Day.

Fans like Cranberry’s Max Ginsburg didn’t miss it.

“I couldn’t ask for a better experience on Christmas Day,” Ginsburg said.

For Chloe Fritch of Chicora, it was very special, her first in-person game.

“We’re going to open our presents tomorrow, but this is like opening the big present this year and I’m super excited,” Fritch said.

She surprised her parents with the tickets.

“When we first thought about it, I thought, ‘Oh, it’s Christmas Day,’ but then when I saw the excitement in her eyes I said, ‘Hey, well, let’s do it,'” Chloe’s father said Eric.

Others have been coming for decades and even travel miles from the Virgin Islands to get here, like Sean Skerrette.

“In 1975 it was the Super Bowl and I picked the Steelers over the Cowboys and I’ve been a fan ever since,” Skerrette said.

They were happy to see George Pickens back on the field after he missed the last three games due to injury.

“George Pickens, he is the heart of the Steelers offense. He’s the best out there. I don’t want anyone in my offense other than George. If I’m honest, I want him under my tree,” Ginsburg said.

Although the team could not achieve a victory, it was still an unforgettable holiday for Julia Andreassi.

“Spending time with my family at Christmas, watching the Steelers play, that’s everything you want in life,” Andreassi said. “It’s the Pittsburgh dream.”

Now fans hope that the spirit of the season continues into the new year.

“Super Bowl all the way. Mike Tomlin, this defense, I don’t see any other way,” Ginsburg said.

The Steelers next play at home against the Bengals in the final game of the regular season on January 5th. The playoffs begin the following week.
