Steelers inactive: Game status for George Pickens, Larry Ogunjobi, Donte Jackson and others for Week 16 vs. Ravens

Steelers inactive: Game status for George Pickens, Larry Ogunjobi, Donte Jackson and others for Week 16 vs. Ravens

There are just under 90 minutes until kickoff of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens, and both teams have officially announced their gameday inactives.

Here’s a look at the Steelers, who were inactive for their Week 16 rematch against the Ravens.

Steelers inactive, Week 16

  • QB Justin Fields (abdomen)
  • WR George Pickens (hamstring)
  • S DeShon Elliott (hamstring)
  • CB Donte Jackson (back)
  • DT Larry Ogunjobi (groin)

The Steelers are down several playmakers on both offense and defense in this game. As expected, Steelers QB Justin Fields, WR George Pickens and S DeShon Elliott are out as they were ruled out prior to this matchup. However, two of their questionable players, CB Donte Jackson and DT Larry Ogunjobi, are both inactive in this matchup, raising major concerns on the defensive side of the ball to contain Lamar Jackson & Co.

The Steelers played the Week 15 game against the Philadelphia Eagles without Elliott and Ogunjobi, but Jackson’s departure came midway through the game.

Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick played more snaps at strong safety in this game, while Damontae Kazee filled in with snaps at free safety. On the defensive line, Dean Lowry saw the largest increase in snaps, playing 46% of defensive snaps after being inactive in Week 14. Montravius Adams also played a share of the snaps at 35%, with some rotation from Isaiahh Loudermilk (33%).

Notably, Jackson’s inactive status has paved the way for a return of Cory Trice Jr., who is active for the first time since Week 3, when he suffered a hamstring injury that landed him on the IR. Last week, CB James Pierre played the majority of the snaps replacing Jackson with five total tackles. Pierre also caught an 18-yard interception against Jameis Winston in Week 14.

Kyle Allen will back up starting quarterback Russell Wilson without a third emergency quarterback.

Given that the Steelers will play their next game on Wednesday, December 25th (one of two games on Christmas Day), the Steelers’ reluctance seems understandable, although the absence of key playmakers makes their chances at the division title all the more dismal .

Ravens inactive, Week 16

  • CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (hamstring)
  • WR Nelson Agholor (concussion)
  • S Marcus Williams
  • RB Keaton Mitchell
  • C Nick Samac
  • OLB Adisa Isaac

The Baltimore Ravens entered Week 16 with concerns about their wide receiver position. WR3 Nelson Agholor was sidelined with a concussion as he played just over 45% of the offensive snaps this year behind Zay Flowers and WR Rashod Bateman. Bateman entered this game doubtful due to a foot injury, as he was limited in training on Wednesday and had to sit out Thursday. Ian Rapoport reported that the team received word that he planned to play unless they suffered a setback in warm-up games and that he was now officially active.

Those who were questionable and active for the Ravens prior to this game include starting RG Daniel Faalele (knee) and OLB Odafe Oweh (ankle).

The Ravens will also be without cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, who is out with a hamstring injury, although his loss is significant. He played a role on special teams at times this season but hasn’t played since Week 13.

There is no doubt that the Ravens have the edge health-wise heading into this matchup. Baltimore is a 7-point home favorite in Week 16.
