Steelers inactive in Week 18 vs. Bengals

The Steelers enter tonight’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals as a relatively healthy team, but neither team is truly healthy in Week 18.

Cornerback Donte Jackson is inactive after being back on the injury report this week because of his back injury.

Jackson missed the Week 16 game against the Ravens because of the back injury, but returned for the Christmas game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson said he suffered a “setback” in practice this week.

While the secondary is without Jackson, fellow cornerback Joey Porter Jr. returns to the field. Porter missed the Chiefs game with a knee injury but will be eligible to play against the Bengals.

“I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible,” Porter said after practice on Thursday. “I’m back now. I am healthy. I feel good. So I’m ready to play.”

When he’s out on the field, he expects to see a lot of Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. In the Week 13 meeting, Higgins had five receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown.

“Yeah, I’ll definitely see Higgins again,” Porter said. “I think overall he’s a good receiver. He has a lot of good qualities in his game that I like. He can attack the ball, he’s pretty quick, so it’ll be a good game.”

“They just click. They have Joe Burrow, a great quarterback, and they have some good outside talent. They just click, distribute the ball and basically just catch balls and make plays.”

“I feel like they have a good team there and it’s always good to play against great talent and show my skills. I’m ready for this game and I’m prepared for it.”

Porter knows the entire defense is prepared as well, ready to shake off the feeling of defeat in the last three games and get on the right track in the postseason.

“I feel like we all want to get rid of this bad taste,” Porter said. “This is a very personal game for all of us. We take the game very seriously, like we do every weekend.”

“We’re just trying to show everyone that we still know how to play defense.”
