Steelers’ TJ Watt is out with an ankle injury against the Eagles

Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher TJ Watt left Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.

Watt said after the team’s loss to the Eagles that he rolled his ankle and X-rays came back negative. When asked if he could play next week, Watt said we would have to wait and see.

Watt was dealing with a blocker when he limped without major contact. At the end of his game, he fell to the grass holding his foot. Watt was able to leave the field and later went to the X-ray room to have the injury examined.

Before his exit, Watt had recorded two sacks, an extra tackle for loss and seven total tackles.

Despite the loss to the Eagles, the Steelers secured a playoff spot and currently hold a one-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North standings, thanks in part to one of the league’s best pass rushes. Pittsburgh ranks fifth in the league in ESPN’s pass-rush win rate, while Watt ranks 12th in individual pass-rush win rate among all edge rushers.

Watt leads the Steelers with 9 1/2 sacks. In Week 15, he also led the league in forced fumbles (five), tied for the league lead in tackles for loss (17) and had the second-most quarterback hits (25) in the NFL.

Watt has not missed a regular season game since tearing his pectoral muscle in 2022. He also missed last year’s AFC Wild Card game against the Ravens due to a sprained MCL.
