Steelers vs. Chiefs: What they’re saying in Kansas City after the win

Well, that was definitely ugly.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t just throw a lump of coal into the Pittsburgh Steelers’ supply, they put a garbage truck of it back.

And the corporal punishment is appropriately discussed in the Kansas City media.

“The Chiefs beat the Steelers 29-10 in a Christmas game that looked a little different than the holiday game a year earlier,” writes Sam McDowell for the Kansas City Star. “A week — er, four days — after head coach Andy Reid called a win the Chiefs’ best performance of the season, they bettered themselves.

McDowell said the Chiefs’ offense looks like a version of its old self. “Mahomes has built a top-10 pass defense. It’s the first time this season he’s thrown for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns in the same game.

“The Chiefs actually allowed the Steelers 181 yards of offense in the first half, but they only allowed seven points.”

Over at KCTV-5 News, Gabe Swartz said it was “clearly the best win of the Chiefs season in terms of…they only gave up 10 points without Chris Jones. “I think that was shocking to most people.”

And KSHB-41’s Tod Palmer pointed out that “for the first time in nearly 15 months, the Chiefs’ offense scored two touchdowns in the first quarter.”

Great.

Palmer also brought up the fact that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s eight catches (for 84 yards) put him “alone for 14th all-time in receptions, passing Steelers legend Hines Ward (1,000). catches in 14 NFL seasons).

“It showed the strength of the team and I think we got better as the games went on,” Patrick Mahomes said after the game. “The boys are mentally strong and physically strong. We played against some really good football teams, had some hard-fought battles and the boys got three wins. It’s important to get the #1 seed. It’s like winning a playoff game, so I was happy to do that.”

And the fans definitely praised their team.

In fact, some were so happy with the game that they’re already rewatching it.

And if it wasn’t bad enough how badly the Steelers were beaten, we can be happy about it.
