Steph Curry’s quote about ending his career sounds incredibly morbid

It sounds bizarre, but Stephen Curry is playing in his 16th year in the NBA.

It definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. His peak with the Warriors didn’t begin until about a decade ago, and he spent most of his early years in the NBA battling ankle injuries.

Even though it may not feel like it, it’s been a while. And it looked that way a few nights ago when Curry scored just 2 points against the Grizzlies in a game the Warriors lost by over 50 points.

Still, there are legitimate questions about when he could call it a career. He’s still one of the best players in the NBA, but we’re much closer to the end than the beginning.

ESPN’s Malika Andrews asked Curry about it and the quote was somehow incredibly morbid.

“It’s okay to accept and acknowledge that the end is near at some point, but only because it allows you to enjoy what’s happening,” Curry said. “But I think the more you talk about it, the more you acknowledge it, the stronger the sense of urgency becomes in the moment.”

Well, that’s one way to put it! Sounds kind of sad, but he’s not wrong. Acknowledging that he probably won’t last much longer in the NBA is the best way to accomplish this.

Not just for him, but also for us. We don’t have many moments with the likes of Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant anymore. That’s why this summer’s Olympic Games were so special.
