Steven Knight announces that the upcoming Peaky Blinders film The Immortal Man will not be the end of the series

Steven Knight has hinted that the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film The Immortal Man will not mark the end of the iconic drama.

In June, it was confirmed that the original Peaky Blinders writing and directing team would be returning for a Netflix film adaptation of the hit series, along with Cillian Murphy, 48.

And earlier this month Cillian and Barry Keoghan, 32, were pictured together on the set of the upcoming film as production wrapped.

But now that filming has wrapped, the creator of the iconic drama series ’65’ has hinted that fans could be in for another series.

Times Radio’s Jane Mulkerrins asked the British screenwriter this week if they already had a release date for the film.

Steven then seemingly confirmed that the film will be released in a year, saying: “It’s a little early for that, but you can kind of imagine it’ll be about a year away.”

Jane then asked Steven if there were any plans for Peaky Blinders beyond the film.

To which he suggested, “Well, it’s interesting that you ask that question because the movie is coming out and that won’t be the end of it.”

Jane continued to ask, “Oh. So more TV series?’ and Steven confessed, “It won’t be the end, let me put it that way. I’m not saying anything about it.”

It was announced in August that Barry would star in the upcoming film, but details about his character have not yet been revealed.

Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting the feature film after six seasons of the BBC show.

The epic sequel to the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of 20th century Birmingham, was written by Steven, who serves as co-producer alongside Caryn Mandabach, Cillian and Guy Heeley.

The streaming service confirmed the news

“It is very pleasing to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film adaptation of Peaky Blinders. This is something for the fans.’

Director Tom shared, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over a decade ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we knew there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the script that that felt explosive.”

“Peaky has always been a story about family – and that’s why it’s incredibly exciting to be working with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix.”

Peaky Blinders opened in 2013 and attracted huge audiences both in the UK and abroad, landing roles for screen stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The show is loosely based on a real-life gang of the same name from Birmingham, which operated from the 1880s to the 1920s and was involved in similar illegal activities.

Peaky Blinders aired six series over nine years and ended with Tommy, who had been led to believe he had a terminal illness, surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by his own nephew before killing him and moving away to start a new life .

The hugely popular BBC crime series, set in Birmingham during the Industrial Revolution at the start of the 20th century, ended its six-season run in 2022.
