Storms approaching Florida could bring the threat of tornadoes in some areas. See weekend forecast

Storms moving toward Florida and the southern United States triggered several tornadoes in Texas on Thursday, according to FOX Weather.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center received eight tornado reports in Texas and Louisiana and three reports of hail on Thursday, December 26th.

As these storms move east, the National Weather Service Mobile warned residents: “There is a possibility of strong to severe storms through Saturday night.”

Storms moving east into the Tallahassee area could also bring some tornadoes, which could produce damaging wind gusts or hail, the Tallahassee National Weather Service said.

There is a slight risk of severe weather Saturday afternoon through Saturday night before a cold front arrives Sunday that will bring more showers and storms, the National Weather Service Tallahassee posted on X.

Threats include deadly lightning; damaging gusts of wind; a few tornadoes; and hail.

The same threats will continue through Sunday for Florida’s Panhandle and Big Bend.

Expect cloudy and rainy weather throughout the weekend, with the possibility of isolated storms on Sunday, the National Weather Service Jacksonville posted on X.

An isolated thunderstorm is possible west of I-75 and US-441 until sunrise Saturday evening.

There is a slight risk of isolated severe thunderstorms on Sunday with wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph. An isolated threat of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

The chance of rain for the Florida peninsula is increasing

According to the National Weather Service Melbourne, there is a 20% to 30% chance of rain on the Florida peninsula on Saturday.

Rain and storm chances are forecast to increase across east central Florida through Sunday before the cold front weakens. The chance of precipitation remains around 40 to 50% across the area, with a 20% chance of thunderstorms associated with the activity.

The risk of strong storms remains low at this time, forecasters said.

The weekend forecast for South Florida suggests the potential for rain

According to the National Weather Service Miami, there is a potential for higher rain chances (30-40%) in the northeastern portions of the region through Saturday.

“If a thunderstorm were able to track or move over land, some higher rainfall totals – 2 to 3 inches – could be achieved,” the National Weather Service said.

The chance of rain decreases from Sunday into next week.

Rain chances will increase Saturday through Sunday, with a few storms possible ahead of frontal passage Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service Tampa Bay said.

Emergency managers in Wharton County, Texas, southwest of Houston, reported three tornadoes Thursday afternoon as a series of severe storms rolled across the state, according to FOX Weather.

Parts of Texas and Louisiana were under a tornado watch Thursday evening as a series of thunderstorms hit the southern United States, threatening the region with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
