Storms return Saturday night and Sunday morning

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Warm and cloudy weather is on the way this weekend, along with thunderstorms Saturday into Sunday morning.

Cloudy skies and some areas of dense fog will move in tonight and temperatures will only fall into the 60s. There is a slight risk of an isolated shower in Walton and Okaloosa counties overnight, although this will be difficult to achieve as the warm front is still offshore. This fog will remain a nuisance throughout Saturday as it will be slow to dissipate throughout the morning and may return to the coast later in the afternoon.

A cloudy start will be replaced by a mix of sun and clouds during the afternoon hours on Saturday. As the clouds break up a bit, temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 70s. Temperatures depend heavily on the sun, so extended periods of clouds and/or fog will severely limit temperatures in your neighborhood.

The chance of rain will increase quickly Saturday evening thanks to an approaching cold front. Currently, a line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move quickly across the northern Gulf Coast, reaching the Panhandle just before midnight and then extending from west to east across the entire area during the early hours of Sunday morning. Some of these storms could be strong to severe, with strong straight-line winds and possibly a brief shift or small hail. The Storm Prediction Center has maintained a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for Northwest Florida during this period, indicating that isolated strong storms will occur in our area.

Once the storms ease on Sunday, we should be able to enjoy some nice, windy, sunny and warm weather on Sunday afternoon. We won’t see much cooling on this front, and you probably won’t notice it’s over until the morning when temperatures start to cool a bit in the drier atmosphere. However, heading into 2025, we will see a much larger cooling, with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows into the 30s, which will complete next week.
