Strengths, Weaknesses, Best NFL Fits

Tyler Warren has the ideal size for a typical NFL tight end and can be positioned anywhere on the field, including as a quarterback in a wildcat formation. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound athlete from Penn State will create mischief throughout the midfield.

The tight end currently has 98 receptions for 1,158 yards, an average of 11.8 yards per catch, and has scored eight touchdowns. Additionally, he has 24 carries for 197 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 2024. That total is expected to rise as the team prepares for the semifinals.

Coming out of high school, he was a widely recognized three-star recruit. He received offers from schools like Michigan, Louisville, Virginia and others, but ultimately chose Penn State. He became one of the top risers throughout the draft cycle and is currently the second-best tight end on my personal board.

Warren demonstrates good mental processing by understanding the sticks on third down, while also showing the ability to find holes and gaps in zone coverage. His seam and in routes are his preferred options against this coverage.

He has very good hand-eye coordination, body control, ball tracking, and strong hands for adjusting the midline, catching contested passes, high-pointing the football, and tracking over-the-shoulder throws. His impressive catch radius further reinforces this strength.

Because of his body control, good burst and acceleration, he is well positioned to make plays after the catch that allow him to move upfield quickly. Additionally, his lower physical strength and powerful leg drive make him difficult to bring down and regularly fend off tackles.

Adequate run blocking ability is hampered by his inability to maintain and finish blocks both in line and in space. This is due to his appropriate hand placement, hand strength and core strength to control effectively.

Due to adequate hip mobility (stiffness), drop (too high) and change of direction, it is difficult to create separation breaks against man coverage. This impacts his route running ability and limited route tree.

Warren has the elite size required for the NFL, allowing him to consistently win at the time of the catch. When used correctly, his skills lead to early successes even in the red zone. His style is well-suited to a West Coast offense and a run-first system that aims to open up the field with play-actions.

He has impressive pass-catching skills thanks to his catch radius, strong hands, and ability to remain focused and controlled during contact. Another tight end in this draft, he can function as a flexible tight end, H-back, and sometimes inline until he can develop his run-blocking ability.
