Strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – Good Tuesday morning! Look for scattered showers throughout the viewing area this morning with some strong rainbows. This will continue until dawn before easing towards mid/late morning.

We are weather aware today as a strong cold front arrives later this afternoon and evening bringing thunderstorms with the potential for strong gusty winds, an isolated tornado and flash flooding.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a slight (⅕) threat of severe storms for the entire observation area. The best time is in the afternoon, starting around midday and lasting until the evening commute, before the main departures around 8/9pm

We’re still plagued by this system overnight as it continues to bring waves of cold, heavy rain during the Wednesday morning commute. The system cleans itself mid-morning Wednesday, with colder air quickly arriving as it exits the system.

Forecast for a cooler weekend with lows returning to the freezing range and highs in the mid to low 50s.
