Strong winds and rain downed trees and power lines throughout Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Strong winds have downed several trees and power lines in parts of Santa Barbara County, particularly in the Goleta and Santa Barbara areas.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, around 10 a.m. high winds resulted in over 30 individual emergency calls for downed trees and downed power lines in Lompoc, Santa Ynez Valley, Gaviota, Goleta and Santa Barbara, but fortunately no injuries were reported at this time.

Southern California Edison has confirmed an outage for approximately 519 customers in southern Santa Barbara County. Current information on outages and responses can be found here.

The above image was taken Tuesday of a downed power line on Vieja Drive and shared with Your News Channel.

Downed power lines should be viewed as dangerous, even if they appear to be de-energized.

If you encounter a downed power line, please contact emergency services and avoid contact.

An approaching cold front will bring strong gusts of 40 to 50 mph with isolated gusts of up to 60 mph through 3 p.m. Tuesday, as well as a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

Most of the downed trees were between Turnpike and Patterson and most were cleared, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said.

The image below from the Goleta area shows some of the fallen tree branches and confusing traffic after the sudden gusts.
