Suns and Jazz set NBA record by making 44 3-point shots

The Phoenix Suns and the Utah Jazz made their three-pointers so often that the two teams set an NBA record on Friday evening.

Both teams combined for 44 points on 3-pointers, making 22 apiece, in the Suns’ 134-126 win over the Jazz. Phoenix shot 22 of 45 (49%) from behind the arc, while Utah shot 22 of 39 (56%).

The 44 3s tied a record originally set in the Sacramento Kings’ 176-175 double-overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers on February 23, 2023. The Clippers made 26 3s (26 for 45), while the Kings hit 18 from long range (18:41).

However, neither the Suns nor the Jazz set the league record for the most 3-pointers made by a team in a single game. The Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks share that mark at 29.

Devin Booker shot 6 of 13 from distance and had eight assists for 34 points. Tyus Jones and Royce O’Neale each knocked down five 3s. Kevin Durant hit just two three-pointers but scored 30 points by shooting 12 of 12 from the free throw line. Jones also recorded 11 assists.

Jusuf Nurkić, Monté Morris and Josh Okogie each missed their only 3-point attempts.

For Utah, Lauri Markkanen, John Collins and Jordan Clarkson each made four 3-pointers. Clarkson led the Jazz with 23 points, followed by Collins with 22 points along with six rebounds and six assists. Collins set the record when he made a 3 with 5.2 seconds left in the game.

Collin Sexton shot 0-for-3 on his 3-point attempts.

In the 2023 Clippers-Kings shootout, Kawhi Leonard made six 3-pointers for Los Angeles, followed by Paul George, Nicolas Batum and Norman Powell, who each made five. Malik Monk matched Leonard with six 3s for Sacramento.

Utah’s Walker Kessler hinted at what kind of night it could be by hitting his first two 3-pointers of the season early in the game.

“Tonight underlines, if nothing else, the skills in the NBA today,” said Jazz coach Will Hardy. “It was a pretty strong shooting performance from both teams. … Both groups shot a lot tonight.”
