Superman & Lois Season 4 Finale Debuts (Spoilers), But With a Twist

Superman & Lois The season four finale ended the series, but not without bringing along Clark’s best non-human friend. This well-known Superman-related character finally made his Arrowverse debut. But it happened in a way fans wouldn’t have expected.

Krypto appears in the fourth season finale of Superman & Lois

Clark’s iconic dog Krypto makes a small cameo towards the end of Superman & Lois. The final moments of the series finale featured two major time jumps. The first film was made a year after Superman’s victory over Doomsday and Lex Luthor, when John Henry Irons married Lana Lang and Clark eventually gave his sons their super suits.

The second time jump occurred 32 years later, with Clark narrating the final montage showing what happened in the following years. Clark and Lois lived happy lives as they grew old together. Her sons married and had children of their own. But eventually Lois’ cancer returned, leading to her tragic death.

In the years that followed, Clark found a new companion by adopting Krypto. Only this time it wasn’t a Kryptonian super dog, but an Earth-based golden retriever with no powers. It followed Clark in his final days before his death and brought the story of Superman to a satisfying conclusion.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, showrunner Brent Fletcher explained the decision to add Krypto’s brief cameo. He said:

“We love crypto. We had talked a lot about the idea of Krypto, but we never intended to have a dog with superpowers on the show. It just wouldn’t really work sonically with what we were doing. And when we did the final montage, it was such a sad moment when Lois died, and we were trying to balance how we wanted everyone to feel.”

He continued:

“We wanted to have some fun afterwards. For example, how do you recover from such a loss? Well, you find another way to joy, and if a shaggy dog can’t bring you joy, we don’t know what else can. And we just wanted it to be his first dog. At this moment he is like a seven-year-old again, an old man with this dog. For us, it made us happy. So it was less about Crypto being an iconic figure and more about Crypto just being man’s best friend.”

The season 4 finale of Superman & Lois is currently available to stream on The CW app.
