Suspect killed after driving truck into Texas mall

At least five people were injured and a suspect was killed after a man drove his pickup truck through the glass doors of a JC Penney at a Texas mall, police said.

The incident occurred Saturday evening, a few days before Christmas, at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas – about 70 miles north of Austin.

In a news conference Saturday evening, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said the truck drove “several hundred yards” through the entrance of the JC Penney store.

Frightened shoppers were injured when the driver was “actively running people over” and a fifth went to hospital alone, Sergeant Washko said. The injured ranged in age from 6 to 75, he said.
