CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, I SHOULD SAY, AND OTHER ADMINISTRATIONS TOO. We have team coverage for you on everything that happens here. WE START WITH 12 NEWS. BLAKE, EASTON and BLAKE, you’ve been outside the suspected shooter’s house for hours at this point. NOW. YES THAT’S CORRECT KRISTEN AND DEANNA, WE JUST HEARED FROM THE POLICE THAT THIS HOUSE IS NOW CONNECTED TO THE MADISON SHOOTING. I can tell you that it was indeed a very active scene here all day long, starting at 1:00 a.m. as we learned from the neighbors here, and continuing for several hours. AND EVEN NOW YOU CAN STILL SEE SOME AUTHORITIES WALKING IN AND OUT OF THE HOUSE DIRECTLY BEHIND US. The warning tape is still in place and it looks like you can see here that the door is no longer hanging on the hinges. THIS FRONT DOOR WE’RE TALKING ABOUT THERE. BUT I WANT TO SIMPLY PRESENT THE SCENE FOR YOU SO YOU CAN BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT IT WAS AND WHAT HAPPENED HERE ON DELAWARE BOULEVARD, ABOUT 13 MILES FROM WHERE THE SCHOOL SHOOTING WAS FOUND. And these are some of the photos that were shared with us as we and our crews arrived here today. Here you can see, as we zoom in, a SWAT vehicle pulled up to the door of this house. HERE YOU CAN ALSO SEE AGENTS WHO HAVE PULLED SOME WEAPONS. I spoke to some neighbors who didn’t want to go on camera and they told us that it got very chaotic very quickly and very loudly. He said he heard something like a bomb exploding and when he looked outside he saw that the door there was completely blown off its hinges. AND SO IT IS LIKE THIS NOW. We can now confirm that this home is connected to the Madison school shooting. We learned this just a few moments ago at the police conference that we listened to here every hour on the hour, but I just want to go into a few details of what we understand. POLICE RESPONDED TO THE SCHOOL JUST BEFORE 11:00 AM THIS MORNING. According to the police, three people are now dead: a student, a teacher and a 17-year-old gunman. Six other people were injured, including two students with life-threatening injuries. According to police, the perpetrator was a student at the school. We spoke to a man who lives across the street from Abundant Life who witnessed the entire scene this morning. First I heard a few sirens and they came and came and came. And you knew that an important event was about to take place. I went to Madison. I went online, found the fire department call between staff and headquarters, and heard that they had opened the triage center in the church parking lot and that someone was in need. When I heard that, I put my shoes on, put on my jacket and walked down a block to see what was going on and I have to admit, I have never seen so many police cars, paramedics and fire trucks in my life. I mean, everyone who had a badge in this Dane County was there. THERE’S SURELY AN UNIMAGINABLE SCENE HERE IN MADISON TODAY. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE STILL PROCESSING AND TRYING TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. WE ALSO KNOW THAT THE CHIEF HERE IN MADISON HAD ANOTHER PRESS CONFERENCE MOMENTS AGO WHICH TOLD THE PEOPLE THERE THAT HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE INFORMATION THAT WAS BEING DISTRIBUTED ONLINE AND WHERE THE INFORMATION WAS GOING. I want you to listen to what he said. You’re listening to this, or you’re at home thinking about republishing or broadcasting something that isn’t by someone in this room, a trusted and respected journalist, or not by us. PLEASE DON’T DO THIS. Because to answer the second part of your question: the effect of this is to undermine trust in the process. AND THAT’S ALL WE HAVE. And it could also, if you will, further fan the fire of misinformation and fear at a time when we need it
