SZA made the official announcement on Monday Lana would be released Friday via Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records. Ben Stiller starred in a teaser video she posted on Instagram, which features an unreleased track titled “Drive.”

She revealed this first Lana Title during a concert at New York’s Brooklyn Navy Yard in September 2023 and said the deluxe version of SOS “It’s like a completely different album, and it’s called Lana. It contains seven to ten songs and will be released this fall.” In one British Vogue Interview last month, she described Lana and the SOS Deluxe as two completely different albums. “I think I make music from a nicer place. From a more possible place versus a more fearful place,” she told the publication. “I don’t identify with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s sh-this happened to me. Yes, I have experienced cruelty. At some point I have to put it down. Little by little my music is changing as I become lighter.” But earlier this month she confirmed Lana is the title of the SOS Deluxe album and teased the track listing.

The deluxe set arrives more than two years after SZA’s release SOS. The 23-song LP included five Top 10 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100: the No. 1 “Kill Bill” as well as “Snooze,” “I Hate U,” “Good Days” and “Nobody Gets You.” It spent 10 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – the most of any R&B/hip-hop album by a woman since Mariah Carey’s 1991 self-titled debut spent 11 weeks at the top. Instead of its impact being limited to the final weeks of 2022, SOS became one of the biggest releases of this year and last. SOS was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, with SZA being the most nominated artist with a total of nine nominations.
