Tank Dell will stay overnight at the Kansas City hospital

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said after Saturday’s loss to the Chiefs that Tank Dell suffered a “significant” knee injury and would remain in a Kansas City hospital overnight for further evaluation.

“We’ll get it There will be an update on him tomorrowRyans said in his post-game press conference. “But all of our thoughts and prayers are with Tank right now. You’ve seen what it means to our entire team. It hurt. It hurts to see him go down like this. He had a fantastic game and played really well for us. He was in a really great place. And we just want to keep him in our thoughts and prayers right now.”

Dell suffered the injury while making a 30-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. The team was visibly emotional when they saw Dell’s injury on the field, especially quarterback CJ Stroud. Dell had his entire left leg fitted with a vacuum splint before leaving in an ambulance.

Ryans noted that the first thing he spoke to the team about after the game was an update on Dell.

“The first thing I did was talk about Tank and give them the update and his status because we are family. We stay together,” Ryans said. “And Tank means so much to our entire football team – beyond just playing, just as a person and as a man. He means a lot to us. This is the first thing I talked about with our team. This is currently bigger than football. We see our brother being knocked down and hurt in this way – that’s the most important thing to us.”

Despite leaving the game in the third quarter, Dell finished the contest as Houston’s leading receiver with 98 yards on six catches and a TD.

“With Tank we lost one of our most explosive players,” said Ryans. “He made a lot of big plays for us today and we lost that. So everyone around him has to pick it up. At that moment, someone has to step in and play. And I think it’s difficult to defend when Nico and Tank are out there. That obviously changed things for us offensively.”

But as Ryans noted, the team needs to move forward.

“We can’t hang our heads and sulk about it,” Ryans said. “We play on Wednesday. We have to go out and get ready to go on Wednesday. We have the Ravens, another playoff team coming to our home. We’ll see where we stand.”
