Team news: Updates on Saka and Sterling | Team news | News

According to Mikel Arteta in his press conference ahead of Ipswich Town on Monday, Bukayo Saka will be unavailable for many weeks.

Our number seven went down in the 24th minute of Saturday’s 5-1 away win against Crystal Palace and had to be replaced by Leandro Trossard.

“It doesn’t look good,” said Mikel. “Of course he is a big player for us. You just have to see what impact he has on the team but it will be a really good exercise for all of us to think about how we can overcome another challenge because we have had a lot already during the season.”

Unfortunately, Raheem Sterling will not be one of our players able to rise to the challenge as he is also expected to be out for a few weeks.

“He needs further tests tomorrow to understand the extent of the injury,” Mikel added. “It’s his knee and we have to wait another 24 hours but unfortunately he will be out for a while.”

With two right wingers out, Mikel was asked which other players could fill that role.

“(Gabriel Martinelli) did really well again the other day,” he said. “He scored a goal, he provided an assist. And it’s a good option. We will also have the opportunity to play with both feet. If necessary, a different profile in relation to the opposition. So, we’re there.

“Gabby (Jesus) played there, Ethan (Nwaneri) played there, Leo (Trossard) can play there depending on how that unit moves. Kai (Havertz) can play there and ask him different things. So we will try to talk to them too and understand what they think about it.”
