Teen shot dead at Desert Sky Mall in Phoenix

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. at the Desert Sky Mall, located near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix.

PHOENIX – A teenager is fighting for his life at a Valley hospital after being shot Friday evening, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The department tells 12News the shooting happened near 76th Avenue and Thomas Road around 7 p.m. A 12News team found officers at the scene of an accident outside the Mercado de los Cielos store at Desert Sky Mall.

When officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found a teenager seriously injured after being shot at least once. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Phoenix police also told 12News that the area where the shooting occurred has been “secured” and that officers and investigators are in the area investigating the shooting.

The department said the area will be closed “for an extended period of time” due to the investigation.

No arrests have been made and Phoenix police have not released any information about possible suspects.

12News contacted security at Desert Sky Mall who said the mall is open as usual.

No further details about the shooting were released.
