Tennessee loses starting wide receiver Squirrel White to transfer portal

Tennessee Football has lost another wide receiver to the transfer portal.

This time it was the starting slot receiver Squirrel knows. He played in all 13 games for the Vols this season, making 11 starts as Tennessee was left with 12 players in two games.

As a true freshman, White had a strong start to his career. Typically on cleanup duty in the slot behind Jalin HyattWhite managed to record 30 catches for 481 yards and two touchdowns.

This was capped off by a strong performance in the Orange Bowl win Clemson. In that game he caught nine passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

In his second year, White took the next step. He caught more than double the number of passes, 67, for 803 yards and two touchdowns.

As a junior, White battled injuries. After an upper body injury against ArkansasAlthough he seemingly never fully recovered, he still played in all 13 games.

White finished his senior year with the Vols with 34 receptions for 381 yards and two scores. His final career catches at Tennessee totaled 131 catches for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns.

His long was an 83-yard reception in 2023 against UConn.

He came to Tennessee as part of the 2022 signee class. He was a three-star player who was not part of the Rivals250.

White was ranked as the No. 25 player out of Alabama and the No. 70 wide receiver in his class.

He now joins other recipients Caleb Webb, Chas Nimrod, Nathan Leacock And Nate Spillman in the transfer portal. Bru McCoy And Don’t’e Thornton Jr. are also excluded due to lack of authorization.

This means that well-known receivers remain in the squad Chris Brazzell II, Mike Matthews And Braylon Staley. Brazzell came as Tulane Transfer, while Matthews and Staley have their actual freshman seasons behind them.

Tennessee also adds 2025 freshmen Travis Smith Jr., Radarious Jackson and Joakim Dodson as incoming freshmen.
