Terrion Arnold Injury Update: Dan Campbell offers good news

In the Detroit Lions’ confident victory over the Minnesota Vikings, the team suffered two more injuries on defense. Defensive tackle Pat O’Connor has a calf injury while cornerback Terrion Arnold has a foot injury. A return for both players was initially considered questionable, but was later downgraded to out. There was no update on O’Connor after the game, but coach Dan Campbell had this to say about Arnold.

“I will know more tomorrow. It obviously got to the point where he couldn’t finish the game. So take it for what it is,” Campbell said.

That didn’t sound like an encouraging update, but with some on Twitter speculating that Arnold may have broken or fractured a bone, Campbell confirmed that the initial X-rays were indeed negative.

“The X-rays were negative, but that doesn’t mean he’s pretty sensitive,” Campbell explained.

Arnold was in the locker room celebrating with the rest of the group, but had a boot on his foot. When asked about the injury, Arnold was optimistic.

“We don’t know right now, but they were praying,” Arnold said. “Trust in God, I will be fine.”

The Lions are pretty shorthanded at cornerback right now. Starting cornerback Carlton Davis is on the injured list with a broken jaw. Emmanuel Moseley has just been placed on the non-football illness list and is likely out for the season. Ennis Rakestraw is on injured reserve but could potentially return.

However, the Lions have two capable starting outside cornerbacks in Amik Robertson and Kindle Vildor. Robertson was particularly impressive on Sunday against the Vikings when he held Minnesota superstar Justin Jefferson to just three catches and 54 yards.
