Tesla Cybertruck fire in front of Trump Hotel: One dead, others injured

One person is dead and seven were injured after a Tesla Cybertruck caught fire outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference that one person in the vehicle was killed and that the other injuries were minor. He said the fire did not appear to pose any further threat.

“We are currently investigating a number of leads and I am not yet ready to disclose that information to you,” McMahill said.

“We are very aware of what happened in New Orleans, with the incident that occurred there and with the number of casualties there and the additional IEDs,” McMahill said. “As you can imagine, in the face of an explosion here on iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our community.”

The Trump Organization said the fire started in the porte cochère of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

“The safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains our top priority. We wholeheartedly thank the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcement for their quick response and professionalism,” a spokesperson for the Trump Organization said in a statement to The Washington Post.

“Tesla’s entire senior team is currently investigating this matter,” Elon Musk posted on X. “We will release more information as we learn more. We’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Eric Trump wrote on social media: “An electric vehicle fire occurred today at the Porte Cochère of Trump Las Vegas. The safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains our top priority. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcement for their quick response and professionalism.”
