Texans’ Calen Bullock talks about a scary play that sent the Dolphins’ Grant DuBose to the hospital

Houston Texans defensive back Calen Bullock delivered the hit on Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose on Sunday, creating a frightening situation for the player.

DuBose lay on the field for several moments and medical staff had to cut off his jersey and remove his shoulder pads before placing him on a stretcher and carrying him out of the arena. DuBose spent the rest of the night in the hospital.

Bullock told reporters he did not believe he would face disciplinary action over the play.

“My intention was never to go out there and just try to take someone completely out of the game and hurt someone,” he said on KPRC-TV.

“My intention was never to go out and not hurt anyone, that is never our intention. So, prayers to him and his family. I hope he’s well. I just saw the ball, and I broke the ball, and “It was just one of those plays.”

Bullock was tagged in the game. DuBose appeared to clench his fists after the hit, movements consistent with the “fencing reaction.”

“It’s very hard to watch live,” Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said. “I am my harshest critic when it comes to ball placement, when it comes to knowing where to go with the ball and so on. I just feel bad that I even put him in that situation where he got hit. It was hard.” Move on after that happens.

Tagovailoa has had multiple concussions in his NFL career – some of which were extremely frightening for a live audience to see firsthand.

“We all know I’ve been through something similar, and it’s no fun,” Tagovailoa added. “You never want to be in one of these situations, but you also understand that this is a physical sport. It is a contact sport. Again, I just think about what I could have done to not put Grant in that situation.”

It was the Texans’ second game in a row in which an opposing player was injured by an unforced hit. Houston linebacker Azeez Al-Shair hit Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on December 1st.
