Texas coach Steve Sarkisian will referee at halftime of the SEC Championship

It was an eventful, if low-scoring, first half in the SEC championship game between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

While Georgia took a 6-3 lead at halftime, neither team was happy with their performance. The Longhorns were particularly disappointed as they had gained 260 total yards while holding the Bulldogs to just 54 yards and still only leading by a field goal.

Many of Texas’ problems were self-inflicted, with the team committing eight penalties totaling 80 yards in the first half.

Coach Steve Sarkisian was clearly frustrated with the game and particularly the officiating as he led his team to the locker room at halftime. When asked about clearing the penalty shootout in the second half, Sark responded. “Hopefully they (Georgia) call you a game one of these times,” Sarkisian told ESPN’s Laura Rutledge.

That was it.

This isn’t the first time that officiating has been an issue between Texas and Georgia. When they met in Texas just two months ago, a controversial penalty was even more controversially overturned after Longhorns fans threw bottles onto the field in protest of the call.

Let’s hope the SEC title game doesn’t reach a similar level.
