Georgia defeated Texas Football 22-19 in the Southeastern Conference Championship game, winning the conference and earning a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Texas dominated the first half, gaining 260 yards of offense to Georga’s 54 yards. However, they couldn’t reach the end zone and went into halftime with a 6-3 lead.

Although Texas kicker Bert Auburn made the kick that sent the game into overtime, he too was a problem. He finished the game having made three of his five attempted field goals. The Longhorns also committed 11 penalties for 94 yards and lost the turnover battle 2-1.

Texas couldn’t take advantage, even when Georgia lost starting quarterback Carson Beck. Backup Gunnar Stockton completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards and one interception.

Texas’ offense relied primarily on Quinn Ewers, who threw for 358 yards, two interceptions and a touchdown on 27 of 46 passes. The Longhorns’ vaunted offensive line struggled, allowing a total of six sacks after giving up seven the last time the teams met. While Texas will likely still make the College Football Playoff, there are some questions surrounding its seeding.
