Texas Longhorns fans celebrate playoff victory after defeating the Clemson Tigers in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff

AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) — There are few things that better capture the sights and sounds of the Lone Star State on a December weekend than a good old game on the gridiron.

“Coming from Texas, football is everything along with faith and family,” Katy resident Randal Hess said.

For the Longhorn faithful, their prayers will be answered on the football field.

“You know how great our record has been over the last five years, that makes it special,” Hess said.

After defeating the Clemson Tigers, they have now advanced to the College Football Playoff in what is expected to be a challenging year.

“I think it’s great. “Being in the SEC for the first year, one of the toughest conferences ever,” San Antonio native Tony Garner said.

But there was more than just touchdowns and a win to celebrate this weekend. For fans, it was a chance to see their favorite mascot, Bevo, in person.

You could say he helped with recruiting.

“I think we came in 2017 when I had just moved here and Jane invited me to a game, I saw Bevo, fell in love and the next game I came it was over. I was thrilled,” says Connie Archuleta. from Colorado, said.

Before the players took the field, some fans even got a front row seat to meet some of their favorites who have made this season so memorable.

Deandre Moore came over, shook her hand and said hello. He’s a good boy, comes and says hello every time,” said Jane Trainor.

Some players from the Longhorn’s past even made an appearance. “I’m actually going to say hello to Colt McCoy because he’s here,” Jonathan Casper said.

Despite wearing a different shade of orange, Clemson fans say none were thrown.

“Everyone was nice, you know, we were welcomed to Austin,” said Patrick Bentancur, who is a Clemson fan.

The hospitality will remain, and that also applies to these fans.

The Longhorns will face the ASU Sun Devils on the road on New Year’s Day.
