Texas Longhorns open as heavy favorites against the Clemson Tigers in the College Football Playoff

AUSTIN – It’s official.

The No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns will host a first-round College Football Playoff game against the Clemson Tigers in Austin on Saturday, December 21st at 3:00 p.m. CT.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Texas enters the game as an early 10.5-point favorite at home against ACC champion Clemson. The over/under is currently 52.5. Texas’ moneyline is -380 while Clemson is +300.

Texas fell 19-22 to the Georgia Bulldogs in overtime of the SEC championship in Atlanta on Saturday, denying the Longhorns a first-round bye.

“The nice thing for us is that it hurts, it’s hard, but we get a chance in a few weeks to regroup, get into the College Football Playoff and compete for a national championship,” Texas said -Head coach Steve Sarkisian after the loss to Georgia. “I think we’re good enough to win this, but we need to get healthy so we can do our best to get there.”

Shortly after the SEC title game ended, Clemson scored a 56-yard walk-off field goal to secure automatic entry into the CFP as conference champions.

The match marks a reunion for Texas safety Andrew Mukuba and a homecoming for Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik. Mukuba, an Austin native, played three years at Clemson under head coach Dabo Swinney before coming to Texas this past offseason. Klubnik is also an Austin native and a graduate of Westlake High School.

The winner of Texas-Clemson will face Arizona State in the Peach Bowl on January 1st.
