Texas superfan Matthew McConaughey shows the Ohio State band some love after their pregame performance

Matthew McConaughey is a Texas home run hitter. The movie star always comes out loud and proud for his Longhorns when they play in a big football game, which has been a lot in recent years.

But the 55-year-old is also an actor. So of course he’s happy about a great performance, even if it comes from the team Texas is playing that day or evening. In this case, however, before Friday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State, McConaughey showed his appreciation for the Buckeyes’ marching band, not the Buckeyes players themselves.

After the Ohio State band’s pregame performance, as the showdown began just minutes away in Arlington, Texas, Texas’ No. 1 celebrity superfan took the time to shake hands with the Buckeyes’ band members as they walked past the sideline or to pat her.

For McConaughey, it was a chance to show that he can be a normal person and maybe step out of his rigidity. For the OSU band members, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a top-notch actor, accustomed to making special appearances of his own, to show his support for a college football team’s band performance.

These band members’ nights out were already planned and the game hadn’t even started yet.

McConaughey’s Longhorns are in a dogfight with Ohio State. With just over seven minutes left, the Buckeyes took a narrow lead 21-14.
