Texas vs. Arizona State live score, updates, highlights from the quarterfinals of the 2025 College Football Playoff

The quarterfinals of the 2025 College Football Playoff continue this week. In the Peach Bowl we will see No. 5 Texas take on No. 4 Arizona State.

Both teams come into this game with impressive records. Texas finished the regular season with just one loss to Georgia, securing a trip to the SEC title game. The Longhorns lost again to the Bulldogs there, losing 22:19 in overtime.

Arizona State, which finished 3-9 last season, started the year 5-2 with road losses to Texas Tech and Cincinnati. But the Sun Devils stormed into contention for the Big 12 title in mid-November. That month, the Sun Devils picked up two straight wins over ranked opponents in Kansas State and BYU, ultimately going 5-0 for the month. ASU then defeated a 10-win Iowa State team 45-19 in the Big 12 title game to earn a first-round bye and its first-ever CFP berth.

Texas is led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, who has 2,867 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Running back Quintrevion Wisner is third in the SEC in rushing yards with 973 and five touchdowns this season. The Longhorns ranked ninth overall in offensive SP+ after the first round of the playoffs.

Arizona State’s offense boasts one of the strongest rushers in all of college football in running back Cam Skatteboo. The senior, who finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting, has a career-high 1,538 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. The Sun Devils are currently tied for 22nd in rushing offense, averaging 198 yards per game. Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt has 2,663 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The two opposing coaches also have very different paths behind them. Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, a Scottsdale native and 2013 graduate of ASU, is in just his second season as the Sun Devils’ head coach. At age 34, he managed to successfully turn his alma mater around in 2024, a season in which the media predicted ASU would finish last in the Big 12.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been coaching since the early 2000s. After spending time as an assistant, primarily at USC, he was Washington’s head coach from 2009 to 2013 before becoming USC’s head coach from 2014 to 2015. He was released in October 2015 and subsequently sought treatment for alcoholism. He spent 2016 and 2019-20 with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, with a stint as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons from 2017-18 in between. He has been Texas’ head coach since 2021 and led the Longhorns to a playoff berth last season.
