Whoever wins the Cotton Bowl on Friday night will almost certainly be the favorite to win the College Football Playoff title game against Notre Dame on Jan. 20. Here’s what you need to know ahead of the big showdown between Ohio State and Texas.

Date: January 10th | Time: 7:30 p.m. ET | TV: ESPN | Line: Ohio State -6 | Overall: 53.5

This is a duel between two top-class programs that have not won the title for a long time. Ohio State last won a decade ago with third-ranked QB Cardale Jones; You have to go all the way back to Vince Young’s push into the end zone in 2005 to give Texas its last title.

Ohio State is the favorite to win the trophy after defeating its opponents in the first two rounds by a combined score of 83-38. Will Howard is one of the main reasons for this and is playing the best football of his career at Ohio State. It also helps to have a generational talent like Jeremiah Smith catching balls.

Texas had a little more drama heading into the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns built a 24-8 lead in the fourth quarter as Arizona State turned a 16-point deficit into a tie in just over five minutes. They would persevere, but the lack of separation has been an issue for the Longhorns all year.

Who will advance to the title game in Atlanta on January 20th? Follow the steps below.
