Texas will be covered in snow and ice this week

As one storm’s snow continues to fall across the mid-Atlantic states, attention turns to the next system, which is expected to spread a wintry mess from Texas to the East Coast this week.

The next storm will begin spreading snow and ice from the Texas-Mexico border Wednesday evening and eventually spread across much of the southern and possibly eastern U.S. by the end of the week.

“In places that don’t get snow or ice very often, like Austin, Dallas, Little Rock and Nashville, it’s going to be a big deal,” AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines told USA TODAY on Monday.

“Heaviest snowfall in several years”

While uncertainty remains about its final path along the East Coast, this next winter storm is expected to bring impactful winter weather to the Southern Plains later this week, National Weather Service meteorologist Zack Taylor told USA TODAY.

Cities like Dallas could see one of the heaviest snowfalls in several years, according to AccuWeather.

“This storm will have enough energy to cause snow and ice across parts of Texas. “We are forecasting several inches of snowfall in Dallas and along portions of I-20 in North Texas,” AccuWeather meteorologist Bernie Rayno said in a news release. “This storm could bring travel through North Texas to a virtual standstill Thursday night into Friday.”

The college football national semifinals take place Friday night at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Although the game is being played in a dome, travel to and from the game may be affected.

“Stay warm, bundle up and prepare for an increasingly likely winter weather event later this week!” The National Weather Service in Dallas said Monday.

Taylor said the storm will move toward the southeast after ravaging Texas, but then its trajectory is uncertain whether it will slide off the coast or rise toward the northeast.

Will the East Coast be hit again?

AccuWeather said that as the storm moves east later this week and slides off the East Coast, it could have additional impacts on areas of the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic states and even New England, depending on the exact direction it takes.
