Lions and bears and turkeys, oh my.

The Detroit Lions are a tradition as old as your grandmother’s stuffing recipe. They’ll be back on your TV screen on Thanksgiving Day, this time against NFC North foe the Chicago Bears. The teams are heading in opposite directions as the calendar switches to December in the coming days.

The Lions are muscling their way through the NFC at 10-1, and their offense features a mix of opposing defenses. The Ben Johnson-led offense has flirted with scoring 60 points twice this season, but instead had to settle for just 52 points in wins over the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bears haven’t had quite as much success on offense this year, despite the promising performance at times from No. 1 quarterback Caleb Williams. This led to the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after Week 10 and the appointment of Thomas Brown as interim OC.

With that, Williams finally broke his touchdown pass drought in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings, throwing two touchdowns after failing to score a passing touchdown in the last four games.

Williams will have his hands full on Thursday – unfortunately with the Lions defense, not Thanksgiving dinner – against the Lions’ outstanding defense. Detroit enters Week 13 as the second-best defense in the league and has allowed a total of 12 points in its last two games.

The hope that Williams will carve up the pass defense like a turkey may be half-baked — hopefully unlike the green bean casserole on your dinner tables.
