Thanksgiving Snowfall Updates | Weather

Your CNY forecast

Good morning this Thanksgiving evening! Today starts calmly, with a few lake-like snow showers in the north. Snow will decrease throughout the morning and into the early afternoon. Partly cloudy skies are expected later in the day before increasing cloudiness later tonight. An approaching low pressure system will bring widespread wet and dense snow throughout the day on Thanksgiving, initially starting as rain in the Mohawk Valley. Forecast accumulations have changed slightly from yesterday morning, with 1 to 3 inches expected at lower elevations and 3 to 7 inches expected above 1,000 feet.

Snowfall forecast

Following the Thanksgiving snowfall, our attention turns to a weather pattern that strongly supports a prolonged, heavy lake-effect snow event. This particularly affects Tug Hill, where snow could be measured in feet on Saturday and Sunday. Our concern shifts to wind direction on Monday after the weekend. Snow caused by the lake could shift south into the Mohawk Valley area, causing heavy snowfall. That’s still a few days away, so some things could change between now and then, but due to the impact on travel, we felt it was necessary to consider the potential for snowfall.
