Today’s top NBA player prop picks

Atlanta Hawks at San Antonio Spurs

Harrison Barnes over 1.5 threes (+116)

The San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks should give us a shootout (233.5 points total and 1.0 points apart), and it’s a quick spot for the Spurs (16th in pace) as Atlanta has the third-fastest pace plays.

Atlanta also lets up a lot of threes, which brings me to Harrison Barnes’ made three-pointer prop.

The Hawks are allowing a 45.2% three-point attempt rate, the highest in the NBA. Last time out, Atlanta dropped 45 three-point attempts to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Barnes has been letting them fly lately, averaging 5.3 three-pointers per game in his last three games. He shot multiple three-pointers in all three games, including a 4-for-7 outburst in his last contest.

If Barnes is in a dream matchup, I like to have him hit at least two triples at plus odds, and I don’t mind betting him at +380 to hit at least three triples.

New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets

Dejounte Murray made threes under 1.5 (+122)

At the other end of the Hawks’ three-point defense spectrum is the Houston Rockets. Houston gives up the lowest three-point attempt rate in the league (38.9%), and that should limit Dejounte Murray’s three-point opportunities.

In addition to the tough matchup, Murray doesn’t shoot the rock particularly well. This season he is averaging just 1.6 made three-pointers per game, which equates to an ugly three-point percentage of 28.1%.

Murray played one more game against a team ranked in the top 5 with the lowest three-point attempts allowed (Chicago Bulls), and in that game he went 0-for-3 from deep.

It will be difficult for Murray to get a three-pointer tonight.

Denver Nuggets at the Portland Trail Blazers

Nikola Jokic under 12.5 rebounds (+102)

Nikola Jokic is averaging 30.9 points, 13.3 points and 9.9 assists per game this season. It’s a little scary to assume the lower bound on anything funny, but there are reasons to make that bet.

While the Blazers rank 26th in defensive rating and are simply not a good team overall, they don’t give up many rebounds to the centers. Portland allows just 14.0 boards per night at the center position, seventh-fewest. Two games ago, Jokic faced a Los Angeles Clippers team that allowed the fewest boards per game and ended up with just seven rebounds in 29 minutes.

In this duel there is also a certain risk that the game will not be played, which could lead to Jokic’s evening being shortened.

The Denver Nuggets are the away favorites with 8.5 points. Portland has lost six straight, with two of the losses coming by scores of 42 and 22 points. Denver has dominated this head-to-head series of late, winning seven straight. In Jokic’s last four games decided by more than 19 points, he was held under 10 boards in each game.
