The 7 best WWE superstars John Cena will face on his retirement tour

John Cena is arguably the greatest WWE Superstar of all time.

Not only has he successfully made the transition from square one to Hollywood, he also holds the record for most world championships (16, tied with Ric Flair).

Now that Monday Night Raw is premiering on Netflix, John Cena has officially begun his retirement tour. This means he will no longer perform in-ring promotions after 2025.

Of course, there are plenty of opponents that fans want to see Cena face again. So here are seven current WWE superstars who deserve a spot on the retirement tour.

R-Truth

Over the past year, R-Truth has established himself as Cena’s biggest fan, often citing the Doctor of Thuganomics as his childhood hero. So it would only make sense for these two to get in the ring together.

Whether they’re having a friendly match or teaming up against one of Cena’s biggest rivals, The Miz, R-Truth and Cena bring a smile to every viewer’s face.

One of Cena’s greatest villains was Umaga, whose ferocity, speed and strength in the ring seemed hard to match. Unfortunately, the real Eddie Fatu passed away in 2009 at the age of 36.

While it would be great to see his son Zilla Fatu take on Cena, Jacob Fatu, one of the most exciting wrestlers to debut in WWE last year, is the person on the WWE roster who currently comes closest to Umaga’s fearsome nature.

Randy Orton

There are plenty of rematches from Cena’s big day that fans want to see on the retirement tour. AJ Styles. Adam Copeland/Edge/Cope. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

However, there is one person whose career aligns almost perfectly with Cena’s: Randy Orton. The two started around the same time and were constantly facing each other in the main image of the event. It would be a mistake not to play this game in 2025.

Kevin Owens

One of the most underrated feuds of Cena’s illustrious career was against Kevin Owens, who actually defeated him in his first match in 2015.

Considering how far Owens has come, it would be fun to see the two face off again, especially since Owens is so adamant that everyone is against him.

Chad Gable

Another classic feud occurred between Cena and Kurt Angle, who had several excellent matches throughout their careers. While Angle has retired from wrestling, there is another former Olympian who could take his place.

Chad Gable has often been praised as a modern-day Kurt Angle. However, he never made it to the main event scene. Beating Cena or even facing him would be a great way to make Gable a top player.

CM Punk

This is another match that is a breeze. Cena has always been an entrepreneur. Meanwhile, CM Punk has always been a wrestler of the people. Even when WWE didn’t want him, the fans really wanted him.

This rivalry truly felt otherworldly, with some incredible matches that remain the best of both superstars. CM Punk proved he can still have five-star classics when he defeated Drew McIntyre. Now it’s time for Cena to do the same.

Cody Rhodes

These days, it’s hard to imagine anyone with the same level of popularity that Cena had in his heyday. But if anyone would come close, it would be undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Arguably the most popular babyface in wrestling today, Rhodes vs. Cena would be an excellent passing of the torch for the American Nightmare or a record-breaking final title run for one of the best to ever do it.
