The Bengals quarterback was injured in Week 18 of the Steelers NFL

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who was named a Pro Bowler for the second time in five NFL seasons earlier this week, suffered an apparent head injury in the third quarter of the Week 18 NFL game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Burrow landed on the football and got a facemask full of turf as he was sacked by the Steelers’ Cam Heyward and Nick Herbig. He left the field after lying down for a few seconds.

Burrow went to the bench and then into the blue medical tent for an evaluation, reportedly for a concussion.

The independent neurological consultant (Red Hat) left the tent, meaning Burrow was evaluated for a possible head injury, according to Kelsey Conway of the Enquirer.

Burrow returned from the tent to the bench and returned to the game when the Bengals got the ball back.

The Bengals’ Cade York hit a 35-yard field goal on the following play to give the Bengals a 16-7 lead.

Burrow entered Week 18 leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns this season.

Burrow celebrated a touchdown run with a griddy late in the fourth quarter of the Bengals’ Week 17 NFL win over Denver. Entering the game, Burrow became the 11th quarterback in NFL history with at least 40 TD passes in a season. In overtime, Burrow broke his own franchise single-season record for passing yards.

In a win in Dallas, Burrow appeared to be limping after Cowboys rookie Marist Liufau grabbed and twisted his facemask. The injury did not force Burrow from the game. Two days later, the NFL announced that it would consider using replay assistance for face mask penalties.

In a loss to Baltimore in Week 10, the Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey was not penalized for hitting Burrow late in the second half. Later, Ravens defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike grabbed Burrow’s facemask but was not penalized.
