The Cincinnati Bengals were heading into the final game of the regular season needing a win and other results to advance to the playoffs.

Their fate after the season still hangs in the balance, but there is a chance for history Trey Hendricksonwho could become the first Bengals player to win the NFL sack title since sacks were officially recorded in 1982. Hendrickson won his title 15th sack of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers and stopped quarterback Russell Wilson.

That sack put Hendrickson ahead of his closest rivals for the crown, the Cleveland Browns. Myles Garrettand he continued that dominant form against the Steelers. He finished the game with 3.5 sacks, improving his record 17.5 sacks this season. Hendrickson is in pole position but stressed he is not focused on individual accolades.

“I’m much more excited about helping this team have a winning record.” Hendrickson said earlier this week: “That’s what we want to do. Finish on a good note and if I do what I’m supposed to do, everything will take care of itself.”

The Bengals have many of the league’s best players from the 2024 season, including the passing yards leader Joe Burrow and reception manager Yes’Marr Chase. Not making the playoffs would be a disaster for this exciting Bengals team, and Hendrickson is all too aware of the talent at their disposal.

“Anytime you’re in the conversation with a Defensive Player of the Year and a first-round draft pick in my draft. Who is one of the most talented pass rushers in the National Football League, that’s pure air,” Hendrickson told reporters. “I give great credit to Myles and what he has done for his team. I am blessed to have the opportunity to do things like this for Cincinnati.”
