The brawl between the Mavericks and the Suns ends with three players ejected after one hit

Tensions between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns escalated quickly on Friday.

Three players – Jusuf Nurkić of the Suns and PJ Washington and Naji Marshall of the Mavericks – were ejected after a fight interrupted play in the third quarter.

The turmoil began when Nurkić hit Dallas center Daniel Gafford with a hard elbow, causing an offensive foul. As the big Bosnian man walked away with Gafford on the ground, he seemed to hear Marshall say something and walked toward him and Washington.

Marshall placed his hands on Nurkić’s chest, Nurkić responded with a punch to the head and Marshall received a punch before officials stepped in to end the confrontation.

The real highlight of the piece: Kyrie Irving’s reaction.

The end result was three quick ejections and, since the Mavericks’ ejections outnumbered the Suns’, a free throw for the Suns, made by Kevin Durant. From the Suns’ perspective, it wasn’t a bad trade, as Washington and Marshall are both starters and are two of Dallas’ most important defenders.

Judging by his X account, Marshall felt no remorse about the hit.

Nurkić left the game with three points on 1 of 4 shooting, five rebounds and two assists, while Washington and Marshall combined for 11 points. Durant led all scorers with 35 points.

The Suns outscored the Mavericks the rest of the game, but not enough to avoid a 98-89 loss and drop their record to 15-15.
