The Buffalo Bills’ result today reflects cold weather play

Buffalo came into the game having scored at least 30 points in each of its last eight games, but the Bills’ offense started slowly on Sunday.

ORCHARD PARK, NY – The Buffalo Bills entered Sunday’s game with so much momentum.

Buffalo won eight of its last nine games and scored at least 30 points in each of its last eight games. But the Bills’ offense against the New England Patriots started slowly.

However, once the Bills got going, they managed just enough to complete a comeback and win 24-21.

In fact, the Patriots quieted the Highmark Stadium crowd by scoring two touchdowns and taking a 14-0 lead.

The first score came less than three minutes after a 28-yard touchdown pass from Drake Maye to wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. The second score was a 14-yard carry by running back Rhamondre Stevenson just 44 seconds into the second quarter.

The Bills’ offense got going on the ensuing drive when James Cook scored on a 46-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 14-7 with 11 minutes, 56 seconds left before halftime.

Cook’s second touchdown, on a 4-yard pass from Josh Allen, helped the Bills make it 14-9:41 in the third quarter.

The Patriots failed on their next drive, and after gaining 10 yards in six plays, the Bills converted that turnover into a 50-yard field goal by Tyler Bass. Suddenly Buffalo led 17-14.

New England suffered another costly turnover with 10:10 to play when Maye threw the ball backwards to Stevenson, who didn’t put it cleanly upfield. The ball bounced into the end zone and safety Taron Johnson recovered the fumble for a touchdown as the Bills extended the lead to 24-14.

The Patriots made it 24-21 with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Maye to Hunter Henry. That drive went 13 plays, went 75 yards and took 3:16.

With just 1:13 left, the Patriots attempted an onside kick. The Bills recovered and then worked the clock.
