The Chargers QB is out against the Chiefs

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert left the “Sunday Night Football” game against the Kansas City Chiefs with an apparent leg injury.

With about 4 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter, Herbert dropped back to throw, climbed out of the pocket and was hit hard by Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. The 26-year-old gunman remained on the ground after the hit and was cared for by the Chargers’ medical staff.

Herbert and the trainers worked on the quarterback’s left leg as he lay on the ground and carefully bent his knee.

Taylor Heinicke, Los Angeles’ backup quarterback, came into the game for the Chargers’ final play after Herbert’s injury. Easton Stick is also on the team’s quarterbacks depth chart.

Update on Justin Herbert’s injury

Herbert would leave the game and later re-enter after a Chiefs offensive possession.

According to NBC’s Melissa Stark, the passerby chatted with the Chargers’ head athletic trainer but did not require further evaluation or investigation. He jogged around the sideline before his team’s next offensive ball and returned to the field at the end of the first half.

Herbert took a hard hit from Bolton with less than five minutes left in the first half of the Chargers’ Sunday Night Football game against the Chiefs. After the hit, he received medical attention and, with assistance from Los Angeles training staff, flexed his left leg.

Earlier in the game, Herbert’s left ankle was taped after Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna grabbed it during a tackle. The quarterback didn’t miss any time because of the ankle injury.
