The Chicago Bulls star makes a statement about Derrick Rose after the win over the Knicks

Ahead of the Chicago Bulls’ special “Derrick Rose Night” against the New York Knicks on Saturday, the franchise announced they would be retiring his jersey next season.

The big news for the Chicago legend seemed to motivate the Bulls team to put in an outstanding performance against the Knicks and secure a huge home win with a 139-126 victory. Bulls stars Zach LaVine and Coby White each dropped 33 points, including a career-best nine three-pointers from White.

The Bulls are 16-19 this season and have now won three of their last four games. Chicago continues to show that it can compete with anyone, having now beaten four of the top five teams in the Eastern Conference this season.

The Bulls are no longer as dominant as they were when Rose was in charge, such as during the 62-win 2010-11 season in which the Chicago point guard became the youngest MVP winner in league history , but they continue to persevere.

After his 33-point, statement win over the Knicks, White told everyone how important this game was to honor Rose.

“We really wanted to win for (Derrick Rose),” White said.

White and Co. certainly went out of their way to honor Rose on Saturday night, defeating the Knicks despite a 44-point outing from All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns and 33 points from Jalen Brunson.

On the same day that the Bulls made one of the biggest announcements in franchise history, their team got the job done and pulled off the upset against the Knicks.
