The new regime in Washington has brought immediate success in the form of a trip to the playoffs.

With their 30-24 overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, the Commanders punched their ticket to the postseason.

In addition to securing the victory, the Commanders secured the Rams a playoff spot and the NFC West title by giving Los Angeles the strength of the regular season tiebreaker against the Seattle Seahawks.

It is Washington’s first playoff appearance since 2020, as the Commanders return to the postseason looking for their first playoff win since the 2005 season after losing in the Wild Card round in each of the last four of the last 19 seasons .

2024 was a year of transition for the Commanders as they began their first season with new general manager Adam Peters and new head coach Dan Quinn.

The pair were tasked with bringing the Commanders back into the spotlight. One of the first big decisions was to recruit Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick and give the rookie the starting role from the start of the season. The trust in the young signal-caller has paid off, as Daniels has led his team to an 11-5 record so far while putting together a potential Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign along the way.

Washington had already secured its first winning record since 2016, and now, just a year removed from second-to-last in the league at 4-13, the Commanders will be playing more football beyond the regular season.
