BOULDER, Colo. – Every game day, the CU Buffs spend time in the locker room with their so-called secret weapon – DJ Fa’Dorah.

He stopped by Denver7 to talk about how he got the job in the first place and how his newfound popularity allows him to give back to the community.

DJ Fa’Dorah, whose real name is Kent Ware, explained that his work in the community helped him land the job as the Buffs’ official DJ.

“So I tell people it was really my nonprofit work that put my name in the mix to work with Coach Prime,” Ware said

Ware said he was not immediately hired full-time. He had to show the coach that he was ready for prime time.

“The first call I got was to do the spring game and then things went well. I got there super early and was, you know, super nervous, but I, you know, managed to do it. When he gave it to me he said, “Give me my theme music.” I played it on time. I guess that was the most stressful part of the job,” Ware said.

His work on the turntables that day paid off and made him the official DJ of the Buffs.

“And then I kept getting callbacks. And I played every single home game in the first season. Well, the second season came and I really had hopes of traveling, being on the road with the team. And so I’m the first traveling DJ in the history of NCAA football, you know, Division 1,” Ware said.

DJ Fa’Dorah is described as the team’s secret weapon. He explained how he came up with the name.

“When a football team all listens to the same record, everyone has the same mood. I think it builds chemistry on a psychological level because people are more together, whether they realize it or not. It’s not about me, it’s about the team. I don’t have headphones on,” Ware said.

While keeping spirits up, Ware shared that he got a front-row seat to see how Coach Prime works with his players.

“For me it’s much, much bigger than football. Coach Prime really molds these young boys into men, and so he really builds on character and value on becoming the best version of themselves every day,” Ware said.

When Ware isn’t cheering on the team or watching a game on the sidelines, he’s busy giving back to the community that shaped him.

“I was able to work with people, you know, with the Brother Jeff Cultural Center. I’ve been doing Thanksgiving every year for about 10 to 12 years, we feed thousands and thousands of families,” Ware said.

As Ware prepares for Friday’s match day, he has no outcome prediction but knows the team will be ready to go after he warms them up with the right music.
