After playing for the Rams in 2023, veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was an unsigned free agent at the start of the season.

In September, with Tre’Davious White struggling and Darious Williams rehabbing a hamstring injury, the Rams signed Witherspoon to the practice squad. Witherspoon played well in recent wins over the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets, and he made his best play of the season when he intercepted a deflected pass with 37 seconds left against the Cardinals.

It was Witherspoon’s first interception of the season and the 12th of his career.

“Nothing new for me,” he said. “Honestly, it’s only been eight years on the job, that’s really all. … I just stay consistent and when the time comes, I’m confident.”

Witherspoon admitted he wasn’t sure what would happen if the umpires waited for a replay to confirm the ball didn’t hit the ground before he was in control.

“I thought I made it through – you saw that in my celebration,” he said. “But when I saw that replay, you never know when the ball is going to hit the ground.”
